Hi, I’m Luisa Beguiristain!
Raised in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, I spent my childhood bouncing around La Isla visiting family in San Juan, Ciales, and Lajas. I earned my B.A. in Communications and English from Loyola University Maryland in 2016 and later pursued a Masters in Publishing from New York University.
During my eight-year tenure at Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group, I acquired and edited the Newbery and Pura Belpré Honor Book A Sea of Lemon Treesby María Dolores Aguila, Pura Belpré Honor Book The Coquíes Still Singby Karina Nicole Gonzales and Krystal Quiles, and its Spanish edition, Los coquíes aun cantan, translated by Amparo Ortiz, the Hispanic Star series created by Claudia Romo Edelman and the We Are All Human Foundation, and many more. As a young editor, I collaborated with Jennifer Besser (President, MCPG) on the development of Vanya and the Wild Hunt (Vanya Vallen Adventures) by Sangu Mandanna, and provided support on What Beauty There Is by Cory Anderson, What’s the Matter, Marlo? and I Have a Question by Andrew Arnold, The Ones We’re Meant to Find and the Kingdom of Three duology by Joan He, among others. A life-long reader, I love stories that are emotionally resonant and engaging, with complex parent-child and sibling relationships, and mental health themes, especially surrounding Anxiety and Depression.
After nearly a decade dedicated to the publishing industry, I shifted gears and began expanding my scope. I’m a fractional executive assistant at Torote Co., the collaborative workspace and startup accelerator founded by cybersecurity and privacy tech lawyer Milou Lammers. I also spend weekends at BODYBAR Pilates, where I recharge my battery surrounded by a balanced, athletic, and real community in Bee Cave TX.
In my free time, you’ll usually find me at a reformer Pilates class, rewatching my favorite shows, listening to an audiobook, reading a different book, or just figuring out what I want for dinner. I live in Austin with my most-stubborn Pit mix rescue, Hazel, who keeps me walking on a regular basis.
